ron swanson responds to the cat lookalikes →
Over at Vulture, Nick Offerman (the actor responsible for the mustachioed Ron Swanson) responds to several of the posts from Cats That Look Like Ron Swanson. His insights are invaluable, especially when he points out that the furrowed brow is as important as the mustache, saying: “You know, the mustache gets a lot of play, but the eyebrows carry the thunder.”

Kumail Nanjiani from last night’s Conan. While I’m very happy he’s in Los Angeles and getting lots of work, I miss seeing him around at UCB or Union Hall here in New York. He had a great set, I hope he makes more late night appearances.
Also, apologies for the 30 seconds of George Lopez promos you had to sit through to watch the video. It’s actually a 31 second lead...

the lost roles of newsradio →
SplitSider posted an incredibly thorough piece on the lost roles of one of my favorite now-defunct shows, NewsRadio (making it part of a very prestigious group including Arrested Development and anything involving Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter).
The post brings up many interesting points about television, casting, and comedy, but really, it just makes me miss Phil Hartman even more.

Portlandia is absolutely incredible, I think “Did you read?” is my favorite bit (granted, they are all funny).

With crutches it’s a funny story, with a cane it’s a sad story.

Hilarious club name generator based on Bill Hader’s Weekend Update personality, Stefon. It’s like that thing where you click on something and it keeps coming up with different names.

parks and rec: media blitz →
If you missed last night’s Parks and Recreation and are like me and don’t have DVR, watch it here. I didn’t think they could do something as good as/better than “Ron and Tammy pt II,” but this episode is spectacular. It also features my comedy crush, Nick Kroll.

rachel dratch writing a book →
In a delightful news item from the publishing/comedy worlds, Rachel Dratch is writing a humorous memoir about life after Saturday Night Live, including when the only roles she was offered were, “obese, lesbian secretary.” As a huge fan of hers, I am eager to see this on shelves.

Dear Julie Klausner | Books | The A.V. Club →
julieklausner:
I am this year’s Valentine’s Day advice columnist for The A.V. Club! I certainly hope those mature, adult commenters don’t tear me a new asshole when responding to my advice. (WINK)!

retold →
In the spring, I started (well, planned to start and then continue) a regular column on my now-more-or-less-defunct fashion blog, Black and Bleu. The idea behind the column was to post relatively short, humorous essays about my time spent in the world of retail. Though I only successfully posted one of the essays, I recently rediscovered it and am somewhat enthused to continue with my 8 month...

chocolate diamonds! →
There are few worse times of year for advertising than near-ish to February 14. Every other ad on NBC this evening was for Valentine’s Day, most of them for engagement rings. Jared (jewelry store of, “He went to____!” fame) has upped the insanity ante with their chocolate diamonds. Because everyone knows that women only respond to things that are sweet or sparkly, so why not...

vote in the ecny awards! →
New Yorkers (and some others who closely follow the New York comedy scene): it’s that time of year again, time to vote in the ECNY Awards. ECNY stands for Excellence in Comedy in New York City and the nominees this year are incredibly deserving. Vote and get tickets to the awards ceremony in March at 92Y Tribeca!

texts from my xes →
Thrillist NY pointed me to this hilarious twitter feed this morning, and just in time for Valentine’s Day. Nothing makes being single around the most romantic time of the year easier than reading insane texts people received after ending relationships. Here’s a favorite of mine:
i don’t see what me breaking your window has anything to do with this
Pure romance.
